Making Life Simple - Spending Time With Nature

Posted by deborah on Saturday, August 25th, 2007

One thing I do miss is having a yard. Living in a condo has its pluses but there are downsides too.

I have a flower box in the front yard I can use, surrounded by a little space on the ground for planting. Also, a nice patio thats all cement, so any planting that gets done is in flower pots.

Many years ago I obtained a degree in horticulture. Plants have always been a part of my life and my family too. I even owned a large landscaping company here in Central Florida a few years back but the business side of it kinda takes away the pleasure of creating handcrafted gardens.

So this is something that I want to add back in my life. Bringing nature close to home again. Being a bird photographer, loving the outdoors, and spending time with nature is great for spiritual awareness. So is breathing in the sun, the sky, and the earth.

Drawing energy from nature can make life seem so simple even if for a short while. No matter where you are, near high rise buildings all surrounded by concrete, there is always a park nearby to go get a tast of nature.

Find away to add nature to your environment. Plants create beauty in the smallest of spaces. Whether you have an acre of land or a small space, start small and add simple things, nothing to become so stressful it becomes and unwanted chore but something you can enjoy, a place for your own escape. If you can’t do it, hire someone to help. Create your own retreat space right at home.

I was truly amazed at how many people create such places and take so much pride in their gardens. My curiosity led me to the internet, of course, to search for other like minded people. It wasn’t a big success until I went into blog search at google and typed in “garden cottages” and “patio gardens” and discovered a huge selection of great reading blogs filled with wonderful stories and photos. People actually living a simple life and loving their gardens.

I took some time to make a short list, some you should visit. You will find an abundance of beautiful things here. This is a great place to spend sometime reading if you do not have your own space to create just yet, you can surely enjoy the space of others….

  1. Notes from a Cottage Garden
  2. Bev’s Colorado Garden
  3. Gardens by the Lake
  4. A Place To Be
  5. The green fingered photographer
  6. Kate Smudges In Earth, Paint and Life
That should get you started. There is much to see. And let them know you found them through the Sunday Morning Blogger!
