The Natural World
There has been a pair of bluejay’s building a nest in the oak tree outside my office window.
Both are clothed in remarkable shades of blue and I am discovering they think so as well.
It never fails, at whatever time I am at my desk in the early morning, and raise my shades I am greeted by their appearance. They give real meaning to the statement “The Early Bird gets the Worm”.
Throughout the day I am provided with much entertainment by their beautiful melody that leaves a smile on my face. I find I am most humbled by their respect of one another and their attentiveness to the chores of the day. They share the duties of gathering material for building their nest. One will bring the other food as one always stays behind, as if to protect what they have thus far built.
I love the natural world. I am captivated by the very existence of how it functions and how it tries it’s best to survive despite what we humans have taken from it.
I am humbled by what it has to teach when I take the time to listen. It empowers me to have the privilege to photograph every aspect of it’s life.
Why?
Because it tells a truth, a truth that needs no words. A chance to embrace something better than what we as humans have created.
Closing out my day, one last glance, they are still working, hunting and looking for one more feeding, one more stick to finish the nest before the final phase of sunset.
